We started out at my sister-in-law’s wedding when my husband Sean was asked to make bridesmaid’s gifts. He had been messing around with silver jewelry for a number of years, making Christmas and birthday gifts for his family and friends as well as me while we dated during college at the University of North Texas in Denton.
Sean had been freelancing as a Graphic Designer/ Art Director for a while and had been making the odd piece of jewelry here and there in his spare time feeding his inner-metal-worker. It was my bright idea to take a Ziploc freezer bag of our work with us to the wedding. My love for what Sean and I make was infectious, and we found that we weren’t the only ones who liked our jewelry. From those humble Ziploc beginnings, we decided that maybe this was a path worth taking for real.
Firefly Forge is our collaboration; Sean creates our metal work, and I create the beaded pieces, and together each creation is special. With two demanding day jobs keeping us busy, Firefly Forge is our chance to be creative and to connect with others who love beautiful jewelry. We are passionate about quality materials and style, and we hope you too will appreciate the beautiful things we make.
The name “Firefly Forge” developed somewhere around that time as well. We were in our backyard on one of those beautiful North Texas sunset evenings in late spring talking about the next step to making this a business reality when the name hit us. In all the years of living in Denton, we had never seen fireflies. That evening we actually did see them, and for us they were as good as a sky full of shooting stars. We decided then and there on the name of our little hobby turned business venture.
